Attachment, briefly
Attachment theory describes the patterns we formed before we had words for them. Naming your style isn’t a label — it’s a doorway.
Trusts easily. Offers closeness without losing self.
“I can depend on others and on me.”
Craves closeness. Fears the small silences.
“Are we okay? Are we okay? Are we okay?”
Values independence. Feels crowded by closeness.
“I need space to find myself again.”
Wants closeness and fears it in the same breath.
“Come closer. No — wait.”
A private journal that listens back
Pour it all out. BetweenUs reads your entry with care and reflects the attachment pattern underneath — without judgment, never stored for training.
She didn't text back after dinner. I keep checking my phone. I know she's busy — she said so — but every minute feels like a verdict. I hate that I need reassurance. I hate more that asking for it feels like losing a game I never agreed to play.
The phone-checking isn’t needy. It’s an old alarm going off — the one that says silence means something is wrong. Your feelings are information, not evidence. She’s busy. You’re loved. Both can be true tonight.
Analyzed privately on-device with your permission. Never used to train models.
Bridge · optional, only with consent
When both partners opt in, BetweenUs shares the weather — not the words. Climate snapshots, not journal entries. Closeness without surveillance.

Thirty days in, your radar starts to breathe. BetweenUs shows you the shift — and gives you gentle exercises matched to where you are today.
Name the alarm, feel your feet, name one thing that is true right now.
Begin →A guided noticing that keeps you in the room two breaths past the exit.
Begin →Write both things that are true. Let the contradiction exist without resolving it.
Begin →Questions, answered quietly
Yes. Entries are encrypted in transit and at rest. Only you can read them. They are never shared with a partner (even in Bridge mode), never shown to humans at BetweenUs, and never used to train AI models. Your entries are yours.
When you ask for a reflection, your entry is sent to Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash through our Firebase backend. The response comes back and is stored with your entry. Per Google’s paid Gemini API terms, your inputs and outputs are not used to train their foundation models.
No. BetweenUs is a journaling and self-reflection companion. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is not a substitute for professional care. If you are struggling, please reach out to a licensed mental-health professional.
Bridge is an opt-in way to let a partner see the weather of your inner world — not the words of it. You both get climate snapshots and a daily sync score. Raw journal entries never cross the bridge. Either of you can disconnect at any time.
Think of it as a well-read friend, not a clinician. The model is trained on attachment-theory literature and gets better the more you write. One entry is a hint; thirty entries is a pattern. Treat the insights as invitations to reflect, not verdicts.

Yes — at any time, from inside the app. Deleting your account removes your journal entries, Campfire posts, Bridge data, invites, climate history, and your Firebase Auth record. It is irreversible on purpose.
